The UK government has once again missed its Initial Teacher Training target.

This means there will be a greater need for internationally-trained teachers over the coming months, particularly for the new academic year starting in September 2022. The most acute shortage of teachers will be within secondary schools.

After a positive year of teacher training numbers in 2021 due to the pandemic, the number of new teachers being trained has now dropped back again to pre-pandemic levels. Only 82% of secondary teacher training spots were filled in the 2021/2022 year. This is also down from 2019 figures.

Although the full data on specific subject shortage is not yet available, it is highly likely that the biggest gaps will be in Maths, the Sciences and Technology. This presents a huge opportunity for high-quality internationally-trained teachers to fill these long term and permanent vacancies. If you are an overseas teacher from the USA, South Africa, Canada, Australia or NZ contact us to find out how you could teach in England.
