Before you enter the UK, you may require a visa dependent on your age and nationality. Please look at the following categories to see which visa fits your circumstances. Without an applicable visa and passport you will not be able to enter the UK!

If you are a Canadian, Australian or NZ citizen aged 18-30 and haven’t previously entered the UK using this visa, you will qualify under a Youth Mobility Scheme Tier 5.

It is a simple online application to start the process and is the most common way to enter the UK, allowing you to work unrestricted for 2 years. A YMS visa can take around 2 months to process but in an emergency situation can be fast tracked in as little as 1 week.

If you are a Commonwealth national and can prove that one of your parents or grandparents was born in the United Kingdom, you may be eligible for an Ancestry visa. This is a 5 year visa which allows you to work unrestricted in the UK. There is a fee for processing the visa along with a separate healthcare surcharge fee. Applying for this visa can be started online.

If you have a passport from any country within the European Union, you will have the automatic right to enter the UK. If you don’t have an EU passport but have a parent or grandparent that you can prove was born within the European Union, you may be eligible for a passport from that country. It is worth noting however that some countries are far more restrictive than others in processing passport applications. Any subsequent changes to right of passage for EU citizens due to Brexit may follow in due course.

If your circumstances don’t fit any of the previous categories, the final option is to enter the UK on a work permit. This means you must be sponsored directly by a school. This application is only available to teachers who have qualified as a Maths, Science or Computer Science specialist. All citizens regardless of age from the US, Jamaica and South Africa will require a work permit along with teachers who are 31 years of age and above from Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Full assistance is provided to all teachers requiring sponsorship. Candidates are connected with our UK immigration expert who will be on hand to walk teachers through the process via a free consultation once a teaching position has been secured.

Quantum Scholars is a great opportunity to live and teach in another country to open up new experiences. The schools presented to me were great options that fitted my requests and personality. It’s an excellent service that is very helpful and every question I had was addressed and answered with care. Lots of advising and assistance was given to me during the visa process which was extremely helpful.

I wanted to get experience teaching internationally, yet stay teaching maths. This program gives me an extra layer of support and opportunity to develop my professional skills that I would not have otherwise had. The service has been wonderful. Quantum Scholars made sure I was well-informed and supported throughout the entire process and communication was easy. This is a great way to take a step and try something new, but feel supported along the way.
