Role Overview:

The Sociology Department is looking to recruit a dedicated, enthusiastic, and talented Sociology Teacher to join their team in September 2025. This is suitable for an experienced teacher or a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) with a strong commitment to helping students understand the complexities of society, culture, and human behavior.

As a Sociology Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, fostering a passion for the subject, and supporting students in achieving their academic potential. You will work closely with colleagues in the Humanities department to share best practices and contribute to the school’s overall development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Delivering Lessons:
    Design and deliver engaging, innovative, and challenging lessons that meet the requirements of the Sociology curriculum at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles.

  • Curriculum Development:
    Contribute to the ongoing development of the Sociology curriculum, ensuring it is both up-to-date and relevant to the needs of the students. Work alongside the Head of Department to develop teaching strategies that engage students in critical thinking and discussion.

  • Assessment and Feedback:
    Implement formative and summative assessments to monitor and track student progress. Provide constructive feedback and individual support to help students achieve their personal best.

  • Student Support:
    Develop strong, positive relationships with students, providing academic and pastoral support. Encourage students to participate in classroom discussions, group activities, and independent research.

  • Department Collaboration:
    Work as part of a supportive department, collaborating with colleagues to deliver cross-curricular projects, share teaching resources, and maintain high standards across the school. Contribute to departmental meetings and school-wide initiatives.

  • Extra-Curricular Activities:
    Participate in or lead extra-curricular activities related to Sociology, such as field trips, clubs, or workshops, to enhance the students’ learning experience.
