SEND/SEMH Tutors, Mentors & Support Workers – Herefordshire & Surrounding Areas

IMPORTANT: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities.

Quantum Scholars is delighted to have recently been approved onto Herefordshire Council’s Alternative Provision Framework and is preparing for a significant increase in referrals across Herefordshire and the surrounding areas from September 2026 onwards.

As part of this expansion, we are looking to build a strong local network of SEND Tutors, SEMH Tutors, Mentors, Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, Pastoral Support Staff, and SEND Support Workers who are passionate about helping vulnerable young people succeed.

Many of the learners we support are currently outside of mainstream education and may experience challenges linked to:

  • SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety and Mental Health needs
  • Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
  • Medical needs
  • Behavioural difficulties
  • EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)

The Role

You may provide:

  • 1:1 tuition and mentoring support
  • SEND and SEMH intervention work
  • Academic, social and emotional support
  • EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) provision
  • Alternative Provision support
  • Engagement and confidence-building activities

Most sessions are delivered face-to-face within a student’s home or a suitable community setting, allowing for highly personalised support tailored to the individual learner.

With a growing number of referrals expected from September, we are looking to establish a strong team of tutors and support staff across Herefordshire, including Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury, Bromyard, Kington and surrounding areas, who are interested in ongoing opportunities throughout the academic year.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
  • Experience in tutoring, mentoring, teaching, youth work, pastoral support, or SEND support
  • An Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • The ability to travel within Herefordshire and surrounding areas

A driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly advantageous due to the nature of the role and the locations of many referrals.

What We Offer

  • Flexible opportunities to suit your availability
  • Ongoing referrals throughout the academic year
  • Immediate and upcoming opportunities from September 2026
  • Opportunities for face-to-face tuition
  • Meaningful work supporting vulnerable young people
  • Competitive rates, dependent on experience
  • The chance to make a lasting impact on a young person’s educational journey
