SEND/SEMH Tutors, Mentors & Support Workers – Herefordshire & Surrounding Areas
September 2026 Start!
IMPORTANT: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities.
Quantum Scholars is delighted to have recently been approved onto Herefordshire Council’s Alternative Provision Framework and is preparing for a significant increase in referrals across Herefordshire and the surrounding areas from September 2026.
As we expand our provision, we’re looking to build a strong network of SEND Tutors, SEMH Tutors, Mentors, Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, Pastoral Support Staff, and SEND Support Workers who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Many of the learners we support are currently outside of mainstream education and may present with:
- SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Anxiety and other mental health needs
- Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
- Medical needs
- Behavioural challenges
- EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
The Role
You’ll provide personalised, face-to-face support through:
- 1:1 tuition and mentoring
- SEND and SEMH intervention
- Academic, social and emotional support
- EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) provision
- Alternative Provision support
- Confidence-building and learner engagement activities
Sessions are typically delivered in a student’s home or within an appropriate community setting, allowing you to provide tailored support that meets each learner’s individual needs.
With a growing number of referrals expected from September 2026, we’re keen to establish a reliable team of tutors and support staff across Herefordshire, including Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury, Bromyard, Kington, and the surrounding areas. These are ongoing opportunities throughout the academic year.
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach
- Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, teaching, youth work, pastoral care or SEND support
- An Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
- The ability to travel across Herefordshire and surrounding areas
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly advantageous due to the nature of the role and the locations of many referrals.
What We Offer
- Flexible opportunities to suit your availability
- Consistent referrals throughout the academic year
- September 2026 start with ongoing opportunities
- Rewarding face-to-face tutoring and mentoring roles
- Competitive rates of pay, dependent on experience
