SEND Maths Tutor – Yeovil

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to secondary-aged young people in Yeovil.

The successful tutor will have strong Maths subject knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and engage with Maths.

Experience supporting young people who have experienced barriers to mainstream education, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one Maths tuition to secondary-aged learners.
• Supporting learners with SEND and individual learning needs.
• Teaching Maths across the secondary curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.
• Identifying gaps in mathematical knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Supporting areas including number, algebra, geometry, statistics, ratio, proportion and problem solving.
• Breaking down complex mathematical concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual needs.
• Supporting learners who may lack confidence or have experienced difficulties with Maths.
• Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
• Helping young people develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
• Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Using the learner’s interests and strengths to make lessons engaging and accessible.
• Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.
• Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s education.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

• Strong Maths subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience teaching or tutoring Maths.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education is desirable.
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Reliable and consistent approach to work.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
