1:1 SEND Maths Tutor – Wokingham

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced 1:1 SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised GCSE Maths tuition to a young person in Wokingham.

The successful tutor will have strong GCSE Maths knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND. You will need to be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet the learner’s individual needs, while creating a calm and positive environment where they can develop confidence in Maths.

The role will involve supporting the learner with their GCSE Maths studies, identifying gaps in knowledge and helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to make progress. Experience supporting learners who may experience barriers to traditional classroom learning would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Delivering personalised one-to-one GCSE Maths tuition.
• Supporting a secondary-aged learner with SEND.
• Planning and delivering engaging and accessible GCSE Maths lessons.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and pace to suit the learner’s individual needs.
• Identifying gaps in mathematical knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Breaking down mathematical concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
• Supporting areas including number, algebra, geometry, statistics, ratio, proportion, reasoning and problem-solving.
• Developing mathematical fluency and confidence.
• Supporting GCSE exam preparation, revision and exam technique.
• Using exam-style questions to build familiarity and confidence.
• Helping the learner understand and apply mathematical concepts rather than simply memorising methods.
• Encouraging independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards Maths.
• Helping the learner overcome barriers to learning and remain engaged with education.
• Monitoring progress and adapting tuition accordingly.
• Providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s support.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
• Working collaboratively with the wider support team.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and following safeguarding procedures.

Essential requirements:

• Strong Maths subject knowledge with the ability to support GCSE-level learners.
• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support is desirable.
• Good understanding of how to adapt GCSE Maths learning to meet individual SEND needs.
• Patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods, resources and pace according to the learner.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to build trust and create a positive learning environment.
• Understanding of the barriers that SEND learners may experience within traditional education.
• Confidence supporting GCSE Maths revision and exam preparation.
• Good organisational skills and a professional approach.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
