SEND Mentors, Tutors & Support Workers – Taunton, Somerset

Quantum Scholars is expanding its Alternative Provision services across Somerset and is building a network of SEND Tutors, Mentors, LSAs, Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, Pastoral Support Staff, and Support Workers across Taunton and the surrounding area.

With a significant increase in referrals anticipated from September 2026, we are keen to hear from candidates who are looking to secure flexible and rewarding opportunities for the new academic year.

Many of the young people we support are currently unable to access mainstream education and may have needs relating to SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, medical conditions, behavioural challenges, or EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance).

Whether you’re an experienced SEND professional, a teacher looking for a new direction, or someone already supporting children and young people in another capacity, this is an opportunity to make a genuine difference through personalised 1:1 support.

Support is delivered on a 1:1 basis with both primary and secondary-aged learners, and we’ll always aim to match you with the age groups and types of students you feel most confident supporting.

Most sessions take place face-to-face in a student’s home or within a suitable community setting, with occasional online opportunities where appropriate.

Hours are flexible and vary according to your availability and local demand. Some tutors choose to work a few hours each week, while others build towards regular ongoing assignments that can be close to full-time.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ability to travel across Taunton and the surrounding area

Driving and access to a vehicle would be highly advantageous.

What We Offer

  • Flexible opportunities around your availability
  • Ongoing referrals throughout the academic year
  • Face-to-face work with occasional online opportunities
  • Meaningful work supporting vulnerable young people
  • Competitive rates, dependent on experience

Please note that applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities.

If you’re looking for work where you can genuinely change a young person’s educational journey while enjoying the flexibility to work around your own lifestyle, we’d love to hear from you.
