SEND Secondary Tutor – Hereford

Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced SEND Secondary Tutor to provide personalised educational support to young people across Hereford and the surrounding areas. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The role will involve working one-to-one with secondary-aged students who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs and who would benefit from a flexible, individualised approach to learning.
You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt your teaching and support to meet their individual needs, and help them develop their confidence, engagement and progress.
Some students may have experienced difficulties accessing mainstream education and may require a calm, consistent and encouraging approach. The successful tutor will be passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way.
The role may involve
- Delivering one-to-one tuition to secondary-aged students
- Supporting students across a range of subjects, depending on experience and subject specialism
- Supporting students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Planning engaging, accessible and personalised learning activities
- Adapting teaching approaches to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
- Helping students develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
- Supporting students who may have struggled within a traditional school environment
- Helping students re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
- Supporting students to work towards their individual educational goals and, where appropriate, qualifications
- Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
- Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
- Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
- Maintaining clear and professional communication
- Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Essential requirements
- Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting secondary-aged young people
- Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable
- A good understanding of the secondary curriculum and/or a relevant subject specialism
- The ability to plan and deliver engaging, accessible and personalised learning
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
- A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
- The ability to adapt teaching and support to meet individual learning needs
- A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
- Satisfactory professional references
- You must have the right to work in the UK
