Focus: SEN and Emotionally Based School Avoidance
Quantum Scholars are looking for a caring, patient and experienced Secondary SEN Tutor to support young people in and around Hereford.
We are looking for tutors who can provide personalised 1:1 support for secondary-aged learners who may be experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), anxiety, SEND, SEMH needs, or gaps in education. Many of the young people we support may be educated other than at school, awaiting a suitable placement, or require a more flexible and individualised approach to learning.
This role would suit a tutor, teacher, instructor or education professional who has strong experience working with secondary-aged pupils and is confident adapting learning to meet individual needs. The successful tutor will need to provide a calm, nurturing and flexible approach, helping young people build trust, confidence and positive engagement with education.

- Supporting learners with EBSA, anxiety, SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Delivering personalised academic support across one or more secondary subject areas
- Helping young people re-engage with education at a pace that is right for them
- Using creative, practical and interest-led approaches to support motivation
- Building positive, trusting relationships with learners who may find education challenging
- Adapting sessions to suit each young person’s needs, ability and emotional readiness
- Supporting confidence, routine and positive learning habits
- Working professionally with parents/carers and relevant professionals
- Keeping brief records of session content, attendance, engagement and progress
Essential requirements:
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils
- Experience supporting learners with SEN, SEMH, anxiety and/or EBSA
- Strong subject knowledge in one or more secondary curriculum areas
- A calm, patient, nurturing and flexible approach
- The ability to plan engaging, personalised learning sessions
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and supporting positive outcomes for young people
- The legal right to work in the UK
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applicants who do not meet this requirement.
Qualified Teacher Status would be highly desirable, particularly for referrals requiring a qualified teacher. We would also welcome applications from experienced tutors, instructors or education professionals with strong SEN and secondary subject experience.
Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an enhanced DBS certificate and be able to provide suitable references.
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide personalised support to young people who need a flexible, understanding and highly individualised approach to education.
