Re-engagement Tutor – Uxbridge & Surrounding Areas
Quantum Scholars are seeking passionate and dedicated Re-engagement Tutors to support young people across Uxbridge who are accessing Alternative Provision and EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) and need additional support to re-engage with learning.
You will work closely with individual learners on a regular 1:1 basis, providing personalised support across English, Maths and Science while helping to rebuild their confidence and interest in education.
This role is about more than simply delivering lessons. You will be supporting young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and helping them to develop positive relationships with learning in a way that works for them.
You will work with both primary and secondary-aged learners, with pupils presenting a range of SEND and/or SEMH needs. We are particularly keen to hear from tutors who are confident and experienced in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Quantum Scholars works closely with Hillingdon council to provide personalised educational support to young people who require an alternative approach to learning.
This is referral-based tuition and sessions take place during normal school hours. The days you work can be flexible and tailored around your availability, but you must have some weekday daytime availability.
The Role
- Providing regular 1:1 support to young people accessing Alternative Provision and EOTAS.
- Supporting both primary and secondary-aged learners.
- Delivering personalised tuition across English, Maths and Science.
- Helping learners to re-engage with education and develop a more positive attitude towards learning.
- Making lessons interesting, accessible and relevant to each individual learner.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Supporting learners with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
- Adapting teaching methods and activities to suit individual learning needs, abilities and interests.
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
- Creating a calm, supportive and encouraging learning environment.
- Monitoring learner engagement and progress and providing appropriate feedback.
- Working collaboratively with Quantum Scholars, council and other professionals involved in the learner’s support.
- Providing consistent support to help learners work towards their individual educational goals.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs is essential.
- Experience delivering 1:1 tuition, intervention, mentoring or learning support is highly desirable.
- Confident supporting learners across English, Maths and Science.
- Experience working with both primary and/or secondary-aged pupils is beneficial.
- A patient, calm and adaptable approach to working with young people.
- Confidence supporting learners who may be disengaged, anxious or reluctant to participate in education.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to adapt your teaching style and approach to meet individual needs.
- QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching/tutoring experience is desirable, although candidates with strong SEND/SEMH experience will be considered.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- The right to work in the UK.
- Ability to travel to learners across Uxbridge and the surrounding areas.
- Availability during normal school hours on weekdays.
