Outreach Tutor – Wokingham & Surrounding Areas
Quantum Scholars are seeking a dedicated and experienced Outreach Tutor to support young people accessing EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) and Alternative Provision across Wokingham and the surrounding areas.
This is a rewarding 1:1 role supporting young people who may be unable to access mainstream education and require a more flexible, personalised approach to learning and engagement.
You will work closely with individual learners to help them re-engage with education, build confidence and develop positive learning routines. Learners may have a range of SEND and/or SEMH needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, school refusal and behavioural challenges.
The role would suit someone who is patient, approachable, adaptable and confident in building positive relationships with young people who may have experienced difficulties within a mainstream school environment.
These sessions are referral-based and available during term time only. To be considered for the role, you must have availability during normal school hours.
The Role
- Providing 1:1 outreach support to young people accessing EOTAS and Alternative Provision.
- Supporting learners to re-engage with education in a calm, safe and supportive environment.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with individual learners.
- Supporting young people with a range of SEND and/or SEMH needs, including anxiety, school refusal, autism, ADHD and behavioural challenges.
- Planning and delivering personalised learning activities based on each learner’s needs, abilities and interests.
- Supporting learners to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
- Providing academic support across subjects such as English, Maths and Science where appropriate.
- Adapting your approach according to the learner’s individual needs, engagement and presentation.
- Encouraging learners to develop positive routines and work towards their individual educational goals.
- Monitoring engagement and progress and providing regular feedback.
- Working collaboratively with Quantum Scholars and relevant professionals involved in the learner’s education and support.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs is essential.
- Experience in outreach, Alternative Provision, tuition, intervention, mentoring or 1:1 learning support is highly desirable.
- A patient, calm and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
- Confidence working with learners who may be anxious, disengaged or display challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to adapt your approach to meet the needs of different learners.
- QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching, tutoring, mentoring or youth work experience is desirable, although candidates with strong SEND/SEMH experience will also be considered.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- The right to work in the UK.
- Ability to travel to learners across Wokingham and the surrounding areas.
- Availability during normal school hours.
