Quantum Scholars are delighted to be working with a forward-thinking secondary school in Essex that is seeking to appoint an ambitious and creative Head of Design & Technology to join their team from January 2026.
This is a full-time, permanent role offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated teacher to take the next step in their career. You’ll be leading a well-resourced and collaborative department that delivers a diverse curriculum across Food Technology, Graphics, Resistant Materials, and Textiles.
The school hiring is a mixed secondary school catering to ages 11-18 years old. They are an inclusive school and they prive themselves on the fact that they are a family.
Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Design & Technology department

Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and delivery across all D&T specialisms

Support, mentor, and develop members of the D&T teaching team

Promote innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students at all key stages

Ensure high standards of progress, achievement, and classroom practice

Manage departmental resources and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives
Requirements:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification

Strong subject knowledge across at least one D&T specialism (Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials, or Textiles)

Proven track record of successful teaching at Key Stages 3-5

Previous middle leadership or departmental management experience is highly desirable

Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills

A passion for developing creativity and technical skills in young people
