GCSE SEND Tutor – Glastonbury

Location: Glastonbury, Somerset
Role: GCSE SEND Tutor
Phase: Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, supportive and experienced GCSE SEND Tutor to provide personalised educational support to a young person in Glastonbury, Somerset.

The successful candidate will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), alongside the subject knowledge and confidence to deliver GCSE-level tuition.

You will be able to adapt your teaching approach to suit the learner’s individual needs, abilities and learning style, helping them overcome barriers to education, build confidence and make meaningful academic progress.

Experience supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, anxiety, school avoidance or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial. The ideal tutor will be calm, flexible and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships and create a supportive learning environment.

This role would suit a tutor who can identify gaps in learning, break down complex concepts and make GCSE-level content accessible and engaging for a learner who may require a more individualised approach.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged learner working towards GCSE-level qualifications.

  • Supporting learning across relevant GCSE subjects, depending on the tutor’s specialisms and the learner’s needs.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and developing targeted learning activities to support progress.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session structures to suit individual learning needs and abilities.

  • Breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and independence.

  • Supporting revision, exam preparation and the development of effective study skills.

  • Helping the learner build confidence, motivation and positive attitudes towards education.

  • Supporting young people who may experience anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies where necessary.

  • Building a trusting professional relationship while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents, carers and other relevant professionals where appropriate.

  • Maintaining professional standards, confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND.

  • Confidence delivering tuition at GCSE level.

  • Strong subject knowledge in their relevant teaching specialisms.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and abilities.

  • Experience supporting learners who may be anxious, disengaged or reluctant to participate in education.

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

  • A calm, patient, flexible and empathetic approach.

  • Strong communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.

  • Reliability and a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience working within EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
