GCSE Physics SEND Tutor – Wokingham

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced GCSE Physics SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young person in Wokingham.
The successful tutor will have strong Physics subject knowledge and experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace, resources and explanations to meet individual needs, while helping the learner build confidence and make positive progress towards their GCSE Physics studies.
A tutor with an interest in or knowledge of Astronomy would be particularly beneficial, as this could help provide additional opportunities to engage the learner through their interests and make learning more accessible and enjoyable.
Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would also be highly desirable. The ability to create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment will be essential.
This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The role may involve:
- Providing personalised one-to-one GCSE Physics tuition.
- Supporting a secondary-aged learner with SEND.
- Covering the GCSE Physics curriculum, including relevant areas of mechanics, energy, electricity, waves, forces and radioactivity.
- Supporting Astronomy-related topics where appropriate and within the tutor’s subject knowledge.
- Adapting lessons, resources and teaching approaches to meet the learner’s individual needs.
- Breaking complex scientific and mathematical concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
- Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.
- Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique.
- Developing confidence with scientific terminology, calculations, equations and application of knowledge.
- Using the learner’s interests to encourage engagement and participation.
- Supporting a learner who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
- Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
- Supporting learners who may display challenging behaviour where appropriate.
- Developing independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
- Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s support.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.
Essential requirements:
- Strong Physics subject knowledge at GCSE level or above.
- Experience teaching or tutoring GCSE Physics.
- Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND.
- Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable.
- Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual SEND needs.
- Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education.
- Knowledge or experience of Astronomy would be highly beneficial.
- SEMH experience would be highly desirable.
- A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
- Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
- Experience supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
