Pay: £25-£35 per hour PAYE, dependent on experience

The Role

Quantum Scholars are seeking an experienced EYFS/KS1 Tutor to provide 1:1 home-based tuition to a young individual in Wokingham.

The pupil is non-verbal, and the successful tutor will provide engaging, nurturing and individualised learning through a play-based, child-initiated approach. You will work closely with the pupil to build their confidence, communication, engagement and learning skills within a supportive environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and understands the importance of adapting learning to suit an individual child’s needs and interests.

The placement will run for the full academic year from September, with the potential for an extension depending on the success of the tuition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging 1:1 EYFS/KS1 tuition within the pupil’s home.
  • Plan and deliver play-based, child-initiated learning activities tailored to the pupil’s individual needs and interests.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to support a non-verbal learner.
  • Support the development of early communication, interaction, literacy, numeracy and wider learning skills.
  • Create a calm, safe and positive learning environment where the pupil feels comfortable and supported.
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil and encourage their confidence and independence.
  • Use creative and practical activities to maintain engagement and encourage participation.
  • Monitor and record the pupil’s progress, identifying areas for development and adapting sessions accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the pupil’s education, where appropriate.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold safeguarding and confidentiality requirements at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience teaching or tutoring at EYFS and/or KS1 level.
  • Experience working on a 1:1 basis with children.
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly non-verbal children, SEND or communication needs, is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of child-led and play-based learning.
  • Ability to adapt learning and communication methods to meet an individual child’s needs.
  • Patient, nurturing and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and build positive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Previous experience working within a UK education setting is desirable.

What We Offer

  • £25-£35 per hour PAYE, dependent on experience.
  • 10 hours per week from September.
  • Tuition for the full academic year.
  • Potential for the placement to be extended.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to a young person’s educational development and confidence.
  • Dedicated support from the Quantum Scholars team throughout the placement.

If you are an experienced EYFS/KS1 educator who is passionate about child-led learning and supporting young people with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
