Secondary EOTAS Tutor – Hereford

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced Secondary EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to young people in Hereford.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners who may be unable to access mainstream education and will be confident adapting their approach to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs. The role will involve building positive relationships, helping learners re-engage with education and supporting them to develop confidence and independence.

Experience working within EOTAS, Alternative Provision, SEND and/or SEMH settings would be highly desirable, particularly for tutors who have supported young people experiencing anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or other barriers to education.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to secondary-aged young people accessing EOTAS.

• Supporting learners who may be unable to access mainstream education.

• Delivering academic tuition according to the learner’s age, ability and individual needs.

• Supporting English, Maths, Science or other subjects depending on your subject specialism.

• Supporting learners across the secondary curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.

• Adapting lessons, resources and teaching approaches to suit individual needs.

• Identifying gaps in learning and providing targeted support.

• Supporting learners who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.

• Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.

• Helping young people rebuild confidence and develop positive attitudes towards education.

• Supporting emotional regulation and positive engagement with learning where appropriate.

• Encouraging independence, resilience and motivation.

• Using the learner’s interests and strengths to encourage participation.

• Supporting learners who may display challenging behaviour where appropriate.

• Monitoring academic progress and providing appropriate feedback.

• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.

• Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals.

• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

• Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people in an educational setting.

• Experience supporting learners with EOTAS, Alternative Provision, SEND and/or SEMH needs would be highly desirable.

• Experience supporting young people who have barriers to accessing mainstream education.

• Experience providing one-to-one educational or tutoring support.

• Ability to adapt teaching and support to individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.

• Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.

• Experience supporting reluctant, anxious or disengaged learners.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• Ability to create a positive and structured learning environment.

• Resilience and consistency when supporting young people who may experience significant barriers to education.

• Reliable and professional approach to work.
