EOTAS Maths Tutor – Leominster

Location: Leominster, Herefordshire
Subject: Maths
Phase: Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Maths Tutor to provide personalised, one-to-one tuition to a young person in Leominster. This role is ideal for a tutor who can adapt their teaching to meet individual needs and help pupils who may find accessing a traditional school environment challenging.

The successful candidate will have strong Maths subject knowledge and experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Experience working with pupils who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial.

You will be responsible for creating a positive, flexible and supportive learning environment, helping the pupil develop their mathematical understanding, rebuild confidence and make meaningful progress at a pace that works for them.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one Maths tuition as part of an Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS) provision.

  • Identifying gaps in learning and developing an appropriate plan to support the pupil’s progress.

  • Teaching Maths concepts in a clear, structured and accessible way, adapting explanations and resources to suit the pupil’s needs.

  • Supporting the development of core mathematical skills, including number, calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra and problem-solving, as appropriate to the pupil’s level.

  • Adapting sessions to maintain engagement and accommodate the pupil’s individual learning style, interests and emotional needs.

  • Supporting a pupil who may experience barriers to education, including anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or challenging behaviour.

  • Using patient, flexible and consistent approaches to encourage participation and positive learning experiences.

  • Building a trusting professional relationship while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback on achievements, difficulties and next steps.

  • Working professionally with parents, carers and other relevant professionals where appropriate.

  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong Maths subject knowledge and the ability to teach at the appropriate level.

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • The ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning needs and abilities.

  • A calm, patient, flexible and empathetic approach.

  • The confidence to support pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or difficulties engaging with education.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills, alongside reliability and professionalism.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience supporting pupils within EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
