About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a knowledgeable, patient and supportive Computer Science Tutor to provide personalised educational support to a young person in Wokingham.

The successful candidate will have strong subject knowledge in Computer Science and experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You will be confident adapting your teaching approach to suit individual learning styles, abilities and needs, helping the learner build confidence, improve engagement and make meaningful academic progress.

Experience supporting young people who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial. The ideal tutor will be flexible, resilient and empathetic, with the ability to build positive relationships and create a calm, supportive learning environment.

This role would suit a tutor who can make technical concepts accessible and engaging, identify gaps in knowledge and break down more complex topics into manageable steps. Experience supporting GCSE Computer Science would be particularly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one Computer Science tuition.

  • Supporting the development of knowledge and understanding across the Computer Science curriculum.

  • Teaching programming concepts, algorithms, computational thinking and problem-solving.

  • Supporting topics such as computer systems, data representation, networks, cybersecurity and programming languages, as appropriate to the learner’s level.

  • Supporting GCSE Computer Science content, revision and exam preparation where appropriate.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and developing targeted activities to support academic progress.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session structures to suit the learner’s individual needs and abilities.

  • Breaking down technical concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and independence.

  • Supporting young people who may experience anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or disengagement from education.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies where necessary.

  • Building trusting professional relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.

  • Encouraging motivation, resilience, confidence and positive learning habits.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents, carers and other relevant professionals where appropriate.

  • Maintaining professional standards, confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong subject knowledge in Computer Science.

  • Experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • Confidence teaching Computer Science at GCSE level, or the ability to support learners working towards GCSE qualifications.

  • Knowledge of programming, algorithms and computational thinking.

  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and abilities.

  • Experience supporting learners who may be anxious, disengaged or reluctant to participate in education.

  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

  • A calm, patient, flexible and empathetic approach.

  • Strong communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.

  • Reliability and a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience working within EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
