Help Young People Re-Engage with Education

Are you an experienced educator, mentor, or tutor looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference?

We are seeking dedicated and adaptable Alternative Provision Tutors to support children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education. Working in partnership with a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), you’ll provide personalised, one-to-one learning support that helps pupils rebuild confidence, overcome barriers, and achieve positive educational outcomes.

Due to a growing number of referrals, we have immediate opportunities available for tutors who are passionate about supporting learners with diverse needs and backgrounds.

About the Role

As an Alternative Provision Tutor, you will deliver tailored educational programmes to primary and secondary-aged pupils who require additional support outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Tuition sessions may take place:

  • In the pupil’s home
  • Within community settings such as libraries, learning hubs, or other suitable venues

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, personalised learning sessions
  • Adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and families
  • Supporting learners to develop confidence, motivation, and independence
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to learning and engagement
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback and reports

Who You’ll Be Supporting

You will work with pupils who may be experiencing a range of challenges, including:

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
  • Anxiety and mental health difficulties
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Interrupted or reduced school attendance
  • Other complex learning or personal circumstances

Many learners may have become disengaged from education and require a flexible, nurturing, and individualised approach to help them achieve success.

What We’re Looking For

We would love to hear from individuals who have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, tutoring, mentoring, or support roles
  • An understanding of SEND, SEMH, and alternative provision pathways
  • The ability to engage and motivate learners who may be reluctant or anxious about education
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Experience delivering personalised learning or intervention programmes

Applications are welcomed from:

  • Qualified Teachers
  • Tutors
  • SEN Specialists
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Mentors
  • Youth Workers
  • Behaviour Support Practitioners
  • Alternative Provision Professionals
  • Other experienced education practitioners

Availability across multiple weekdays would be advantageous due to the high volume of referrals currently available.

What’s on Offer?

  • Flexible working hours to fit around your schedule
  • Competitive hourly rates based on experience
  • Regular referrals and ongoing work opportunities
  • Immediate starts available
  • Opportunities extending into the next academic year
  • Support from an experienced and collaborative team
  • The opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the lives of young people
