1:1 Outreach Tutor – Somerset

Location: Somerset
Role: 1:1 Outreach Tutor
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, reliable and experienced 1:1 Outreach Tutor to provide personalised educational support to young people in Somerset who may face barriers to accessing mainstream education.

The successful candidate will have experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your approach to meet individual learning needs, helping young people re-engage with education, develop their confidence and make meaningful progress.

Experience supporting learners who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial. The ideal tutor will be calm, flexible and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships and create a supportive learning environment tailored to each young person’s needs.

This role offers an opportunity to make a genuine difference to learners who may require a more personalised approach to education. Sessions may take place in the young person’s home or another suitable community setting, depending on individual circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one educational support to young people with a range of learning needs.

  • Supporting learners who may be accessing Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS), alternative provision or other forms of outreach education.

  • Identifying gaps in learning and adapting activities to support academic progress.

  • Supporting learning across relevant curriculum subjects, depending on the tutor’s experience and the learner’s needs.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session structure to suit individual abilities, interests and learning styles.

  • Helping young people overcome barriers to education, including anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance and disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques where necessary.

  • Building trusting professional relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.

  • Encouraging engagement, independence, resilience and positive learning habits.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents, carers and other professionals where appropriate.

  • Working collaboratively with relevant professionals to support the young person’s educational development.

  • Maintaining accurate records where required and following safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, outreach support or personalised educational provision.

  • An understanding of the barriers that can prevent young people from accessing mainstream education.

  • Experience supporting learners who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties or disengagement from learning.

  • The ability to adapt approaches to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • A calm, patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

  • Confidence establishing positive relationships and maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Reliability, flexibility and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience working within EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
