AP/EOTAS Tutor – Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Role: Alternative Provision / EOTAS Tutor
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, supportive and experienced AP/EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised, one-to-one educational support to young people in Wokingham.

We receive regular referrals from the local authority for tuition and educational support in the area. The successful candidate will have experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing mainstream education.

You will be confident adapting your teaching approach to suit individual learning needs, abilities and interests, helping learners re-engage with education, rebuild confidence and make meaningful academic progress.

Experience supporting young people who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour is highly desirable. The ideal tutor will be calm, flexible and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships, maintain appropriate boundaries and create a structured but supportive learning environment.

This role would suit someone who understands alternative provision and can provide a flexible, individualised approach to education, adapting sessions to meet the needs of each young person.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one educational support as part of an Alternative Provision or EOTAS package.

  • Supporting learning across relevant curriculum subjects, depending on the tutor’s experience and the young person’s needs.

  • Supporting academic development and GCSE-level learning where appropriate.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and developing targeted activities to support progress.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session structures to suit individual learning needs, abilities and interests.

  • Breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and engagement.

  • Supporting young people who may experience anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or disengagement from education.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques where necessary.

  • Building trusting professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents, carers and other relevant professionals where appropriate.

  • Working collaboratively with those involved in the young person’s education and support.

  • Maintaining appropriate records, confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • An understanding of Alternative Provision and EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School).

  • Experience supporting young people who have struggled to engage with mainstream education.

  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour.

  • A calm, patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

  • Confidence building positive relationships and maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Reliability, flexibility and a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience working within alternative provision, EOTAS or other non-mainstream educational settings would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
