EOTAS Tutor – Yeovil

Location: Yeovil, Somerset
Phase: Primary / Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Yeovil who is receiving education other than at school (EOTAS).

The successful tutor will have experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching approach, resources and session pace to meet individual learning needs, helping the learner build confidence, re-engage with education and make progress at a suitable pace.

Experience supporting young people who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. The tutor should be patient, flexible and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships, establish appropriate boundaries and create a calm, supportive learning environment.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work. Sessions may take place in the young person’s home or a suitable community setting, depending on their needs.

The role may involve:

  • Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person receiving EOTAS provision.

  • Supporting learning across relevant subjects, including English, Maths and Science, depending on the learner’s needs and the tutor’s subject specialism.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted educational support.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session pace to suit individual learning styles, abilities and interests.

  • Breaking down tasks and concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and progress.

  • Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including school avoidance, anxiety or disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging or unpredictable behaviour.

  • Using positive behaviour strategies, clear boundaries and appropriate de-escalation techniques where required.

  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner to encourage engagement and motivation.

  • Supporting the development of confidence, resilience, independence and positive learning habits.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Using the learner’s interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and accessible.

  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s education.

  • Working collaboratively with relevant professionals to support the young person’s educational progress.

  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, personalised educational support or outreach provision.

  • Experience supporting learners who face barriers to mainstream education.

  • A flexible approach to teaching, with the ability to adapt to different subjects and individual learning needs.

  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

  • Confidence responding calmly to difficult or unpredictable situations.

  • A patient, empathetic, resilient and consistent approach.

  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

  • Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Reliability and a commitment to helping young people make progress.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
