SEND/SEMH Functional Skills Tutor – Ledbury (Alternative Provision & EOTAS)

Quantum Scholars is proud to be an approved provider on Herefordshire Council’s Alternative Provision Framework, working closely with the local authority to support young people who are unable to access mainstream education.

We are currently looking for experienced and compassionate SEND/SEMH Functional Skills Tutors across Ledbury to provide 1:1 tuition and support for pupils requiring Alternative Provision or EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School). This role is delivered in person, either within pupils’ homes or in community settings such as libraries. This is not an online role.

We are receiving consistent referrals from Herefordshire Council for tuition beginning in September and are looking to build a team of dedicated tutors who are passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

Tuition will be tailored to each pupil’s individual needs and may cover a range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, and other curriculum areas. Tutors with a subject specialism are particularly encouraged to apply.

The role may involve

  • Delivering engaging one-to-one tuition for young pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Planning and adapting lessons to meet each pupil’s individual learning needs, abilities and outcomes.
  • Teaching a range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science and other curriculum areas where appropriate.
  • Delivering sessions within pupils’ homes or community venues such as libraries.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that support pupils’ confidence, engagement and wellbeing.
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of tuition sessions.
  • Liaising with parents, carers, schools, local authority professionals and other agencies where required.
  • Creating a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment that enables pupils to achieve their potential.

Essential requirements

  • Experience working with pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, teaching or educational support.
  • The ability to plan engaging, personalised learning programmes.
  • A patient, adaptable and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence working independently in pupils’ homes and community settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Satisfactory professional references.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.

Safeguarding

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS check and references.

This is a rewarding opportunity to provide meaningful, personalised support to pupils who need it most while becoming part of a growing Alternative Provision across Ledbury. If you are passionate about helping young people thrive through high-quality, individualised education, we would love to hear from you.
