Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs? Do you have experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH, or other barriers to learning?

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEND Intervention Tutors to support a growing number of learners across Wokingham and the surrounding areas. Working alongside a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), you’ll play a vital role in helping young people re-engage with education, develop confidence, and achieve meaningful progress through personalised learning programmes.

With immediate referrals available and ongoing demand for specialist support, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and expanding team.

The Role

As a SEND Intervention Tutor, you will deliver bespoke, one-to-one tuition to primary and secondary-aged pupils who require alternative educational provision.

Sessions may take place:

  • In the learner’s home
  • In a local community venue, such as a library or learning hub

You will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, individualised learning programmes
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet a range of learning needs and abilities
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and their families
  • Support learners to develop confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Implement strategies to overcome barriers to engagement and learning
  • Monitor progress and provide clear feedback and reports

Who You’ll Support

You will work with pupils presenting with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
  • Anxiety and mental health challenges
  • Communication and interaction needs
  • Behavioural and emotional difficulties
  • Other complex learning needs

Many of the learners you support may have experienced challenges within mainstream education and benefit from a patient, personalised approach that helps them reconnect with learning.

About You

We welcome applications from experienced professionals who have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • A strong understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive practice
  • The ability to build rapport with learners who may be disengaged from education
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, flexible, and empathetic approach
  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, youth work, or educational support
